2. Before deciding on what to buy, it is important to look for any notes regarding consumer safety measures that the company implements. You might also see buttons that say “secure ordering” or anything synonymous to it. Make sure that you understand what is being stated.
3. Does the company have a complete street address and phone number? If so, you can try to enquire about the item you want to buy by visiting the physical store or by calling its office. The absence of the said info means that you should avoid it. Email transactions are strongly discouraged, since this creates more risk of identity theft through phishing.
4. Does the shop have a privacy policy If so, make sure you know exactly what is written there, especially on the part about data collection and how each of these will be treated.
5. When it comes to the electronic transfer of funds, make sure that the domain has a secure connection. This can be easily identified over the browser when a pop-up box appears stating your entry. Another way of knowing this is to check a padlock logo that appears near the address bar. This is usually visible on the page where you are asked to enter information.
You should always keep safety as a priority in all deals, even if you are already adept when it comes to working your way around the different shops over the Internet.
